After School Program

Early Pick Up

The purpose of the Afterschool Program is to offer a balanced program of both academics and enrichment.  We offer homework support, interventions, reteaching, and a variety of enrichment. This year our enrichment activities include: African Drumming, Singing and Guitar, Science Workshop, Technology Academy, Wetlands Stewardship, and our very own Ms. Debbie for Art.

It is important that students attend all five days for the full program. When they are pulled out early on a regular basis they miss out on valuable teacher support, homework completion and enrichment. This is particiularly important as our funding is based on attendance so we have to make sure students are here every day. We also have a long waiting list of students who would like to attend. If your child is going to be absent please call the school and ask for extension 4342 to let us know.  We do our best to call every day when a child is marked absent.

MacQuiddy After School Program 2017 - 2018

Hello, Mustang After School Students, Parents and Teachers...

The first semester of the 2017-18 school year has been eventful.  The after school program continues to include many of the activities students enjoyed last year.  There are a wide spectrum of enrichment choices, such as:  Swimming and Nutrition Classes, Drama Class, Science Workshop, Garden Class, Arts and Crafts Class, Tech Teach, and Cooking Class.

Academic support is an essential component of the After School Program.  After school teachers provide homework support, daily reading time, math practice and connections to the Second Step focus area of the month.  Second Step is the social/emotional curriculum that is being implemented by the regular day staff. The after school groups rotate through three rotations daily:  Homework/Math, Reading, Lexia.  Enrichment activities are woven throughout the day.

Second Semester is going to be an exciting mix of new after school classes and parent meetings.  Wetlands Watch and ROV class are two new enrichment activities.  The parent meetings that are scheduled are as follows:  1.  CPR/First Aid Training - 2.22.18

2.  Parent Art Night - 3.13.18  3.  Parent Information Night

What's Going On in 2017-2018

Life Lab and the MacQuiddy Garden:  During the first semester students in Kinder, first and second grade classes worked with Life Lab teachers, Emma, Becca and Aisling.  They enjoyed working and learning in the garden.  This semester third, fourth and fifth grade students are going to participate in nutrition/cooking classes.

COOKING CLASS:  Ms. Castro has been teaching a cooking class on Tuesdays.  She has been utilizing the produce from our MacQuiddy garden and from the Second Harvest Food Bank delivery.  Students are learning how to make healthy, nutritious things to eat.  And...surprise, healthy and nutritious can be really yummy!!!

WETLANDS WATCH:   Third grade students are to learn about the community and the wetlands surrounding it.  They will be taking four field trips to the different sloughs in the Watsonville area.  The will study the animals and plants that make these places their home.
